そして私ができることはこれなんだ。

Japanese Calligrapher
Lifu Hazu
Born in 1983 in Atami, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan.
From calligraphy school starting at the age of 4 to calligraphy club in high school, shodō has been the one constant interest in Hazu’s life. Leaving Japan for Los Angeles to study abroad at the age of 22, the 3-year period of distance between her and the practice led her to take notice of the merits and intricacies of her own culture. After returning to Japan and beginning life as a working adult, the feelings she discovered she held toward Japanese culture remained in her heart, and she yearned to express them:
“Calligraphy is one way in which we combine elements of a certain Japanese uniqueness and delicacy. I believe as Japanese we must be proud of the art, sharing it with both future generations and the world at large. This is the one thing I can do to communicate this.”
At the age of 32, she once again began full-time practice of calligraphy in order to realize this desire.
Now, using a lifetime of experience in the art and an objective evaluation of her own culture during time away from Japan, she works on projects both locally and internationally, expressing the Japanese art of writing in forms both traditional (naming certificates and scrolls) and modern (logos and other graphic design).
